What MCP Means for Omnisend Users

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and act on your behalf. Instead of just drafting copy, ChatGPT or Claude can read your Omnisend account data, create campaigns, and manage automations through a structured API connection.

Your AI assistant becomes an operational interface for email marketing. You describe what you want in plain language, and the assistant translates that into API calls against your Omnisend account. Omnisend is not alone here. Meta Ads and TikTok Ads both launched their own MCP integrations this year, bringing ad management into AI chat interfaces. Omnisend does the same for email and SMS.

Setting up the connection typically involves adding Omnisend’s MCP server endpoint in your AI assistant’s MCP configuration and authorizing with your account credentials. Once connected, the assistant can access your campaigns, automations, contacts, and reporting data. Keep in mind that MCP operates with your account’s API permissions, so whatever your API key can do, the AI can do.

What the July 2026 Expansion Covers

Omnisend’s initial MCP support handled regular email campaigns and account-level insights. The July 2026 update significantly broadens what you can do without opening the Omnisend dashboard.

Automation management is the biggest addition. Previously, building automations required the visual drag-and-drop editor in the Omnisend UI. Now you can describe a workflow in natural language and have the AI construct it, including all block types that the Omnisend interface supports and webhook integrations.

A few other July updates worth noting: typing @ in a text block now opens a searchable personalization variable picker; 14 new integrations were added to the App Market; Hostinger and Shopify are now supported domain providers for sender authentication; and a Shared Image Library lets you reuse images across Forms and Campaigns without re-uploading.

Practical Workflows for E-Commerce Teams

A few examples of what you can do from a chat window.

Audit your automation performance by asking the assistant to list all active automations sorted by revenue over the last 30 days. Instead of clicking through each workflow’s report screen in the dashboard, you get a ranked summary in one response. Follow up with questions about specific flows, like open rates on your abandoned cart sequence or conversion rates on post-purchase upsells.

Create A/B test campaigns conversationally. Describe the audience segment, the variable you want to test (subject line, send time, content block), and the test parameters. The assistant builds both variants and configures the split. Review the setup before hitting send.

Batch-edit UTM parameters across campaigns. If you need to standardize utm_source values to align with GA4 channel groupings, a single prompt can update dozens of campaigns that would otherwise require individual edits in the dashboard.

Manage SMS campaigns without context-switching. With the July expansion, you can create targeted SMS sends from the same chat window where you handle email. Describe the audience criteria and message content, and the assistant sets up the campaign for your approval.

Review and adjust automations on the fly. Ask the assistant to disable a seasonal workflow that has ended, update the delay timing in a welcome series, or add a webhook block to push data to your fulfillment system. All automation block types available in the Omnisend editor are accessible through MCP.

Guardrails Worth Setting Up

Speed makes it easy to break things.

Always review AI-created automations before enabling them. The assistant might set trigger conditions too broadly, miss an edge case in branching logic, or configure timing that does not match your sending patterns. After creating an automation via MCP, open it in Omnisend’s visual editor to verify the flow diagram before toggling it on.

Watch your send volume and deliverability. It is much faster to create and launch campaigns through an AI interface, which makes it easier to accidentally spike your sending volume. If your domain has not built up enough sender reputation, sudden increases can hurt inbox placement. Start with smaller test sends and monitor bounce rates and spam complaints.

Scope your API access carefully. MCP uses whatever permissions your API key grants. If multiple team members share an AI workspace, create a dedicated API key with limited permissions for the MCP connection. You probably do not want every user to have the ability to disable live automations or send campaigns to your full list from a chat prompt.

Treat MCP as a complement to the dashboard, not a replacement. The visual automation builder is still better for designing complex multi-branch workflows with conditional splits, time delays, and channel routing. MCP is strongest at quick queries, bulk edits, straightforward campaign creation, and pulling performance numbers.
