TikTok TopReach: Who Should Actually Buy It
TikTok announced TopReach on March 24, 2026, and moved it into open beta in Q2. The product is a bundle: TopView and TopFeed, previously two separate buys, now purchased as one. Most cross-border sellers should skip it. If you are planning a product launch or a market entry this year, work out where the threshold sits before a sales rep works it out for you.
What the bundle actually contains
TopView is the first piece of content a user sees when they open the app that day. Full screen, sound on, nothing competing for attention. That is the pitch. The catch is that plenty of people are already swiping before your first frame lands, so the raw impression count flatters the placement more than the attention it earns.
TopFeed is the first in-feed ad slot in the For You stream. The user is already in scrolling mode, which makes tolerance higher, but your creative now sits next to organic content and has to survive that comparison on its own. Running these separately used to mean two planning cycles, two flight schedules, and no shared frequency cap between them. TopReach puts both under one campaign, so reach and frequency are calculated once. For agencies, the saving is mostly operational overhead and wasted duplicate exposure.
One Day Max Reach vs Creative Sequencing
One Day Max Reach lets the system choose the placement per user, aiming to cover the full addressable audience for that day. You do not decide where any individual sees you. Creative Sequencing is the narrative option. The same user gets TopView first, then TopFeed later the same day, with the second asset built to follow the first. It is still in alpha and not available in every market.
| Dimension | One Day Max Reach | Creative Sequencing | TopView alone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Max same-day reach | Two-beat story | Single high-impact hit |
| Creative needed | 1 asset | 2 linked assets | 1 asset |
| Availability | Open beta | Alpha, request access | Standard buy |
| Best fit | Sale day one, new market | Product launch, rebrand | One-day event |
| Placement control | System decides | You set the order | Not applicable |
Sequencing raises the creative bar considerably. If the first asset does not leave an open loop, the second one degrades into repetition and you have paid twice for the same message. Teams that cannot reliably produce two interlocking spots should not request access.
Reading TikTok’s own numbers
TikTok reports that TopReach delivers 59% incremental reach on average and a cost per reach roughly 3x lower than buying TopView alone. Both figures come from TikTok’s internal campaign data.
No sample size was disclosed, and there is no vertical or market breakdown. We do not know how many advertisers were included, what they spent, which countries they ran in, or how good the creative was. Treat both numbers as directional signals about how the bundle behaves, not as a planning benchmark you can model against.
The incremental reach figure deserves a second look. Incremental against what baseline? If the baseline is TopView alone, a meaningful share of that lift is simply TopFeed doing what TopFeed does. That is not a data problem, it is a definition problem: nothing in the public statement separates efficiency gained from bundling versus reach gained from buying a second placement. The CPR claim works the same way. TopView carries a premium price. Blending in the cheaper placement pulls the average down almost mechanically. The question worth asking a rep is whether reach quality holds up in the blended buy, and that is the number TikTok has not published.
The qualification checklist
Before you take the meeting, count how many of these are true. Three or more is my bar:
- Brand exposure budget for the single activation runs into six figures USD, and that money is not being judged on direct ROAS
- There is a hard date anchor: launch day, Black Friday day one, or week one in a new country
- Awareness is the actual objective this quarter, not inventory clearance or order volume
- You can ship at least one asset that survives full-screen, unskippable playback within 48 hours
- The post-click path already converts, so incoming traffic does not stall on a weak storefront
- You have brand lift measurement in place, otherwise you cannot prove the spend did anything
Buying it without any of these usually ends the same way. A day of budget gone, an impressive impression count in the dashboard, and no clear answer when someone asks what it bought.
Where the budget goes instead
For most cross-border sellers the honest answer is that this money does not exist, and chasing it is the wrong instinct anyway. The same spend buys more measurable outcomes on the performance side. GMV Max is the closest substitute in spirit. It optimizes toward transactions rather than reach, and the entry threshold is low enough that you can read results the next morning instead of arguing about them a month later. For higher-intent traffic, Search Ads puts you in front of users who typed the keyword themselves, which shortens the path to purchase at the cost of being capped by category search volume.
Creator content is the slower option and usually the more durable one. The same budget spread across 20 to 30 mid-tier creators produces a library you can push through Spark Ads repeatedly, plus real signal about which angle people respond to. Those assets keep working in feed campaigns and on Shop pages months later. TopReach buys one day of attention, and when the day ends there is nothing left to reuse.
